Welcome to the Smart Manufacturing Use Case Platform
Manufacturing is changing faster than most organizations can keep up with. AI, automation, digital twins, advanced analytics — the technologies are real, the potential is significant, and the pressure to act is mounting. But knowing where to start, and how to connect these technologies to actual operational problems, remains one of the hardest challenges in the industry.
That's why we built this platform.
What We've Built
The Smart Manufacturing Use Case Platform is a structured library of over 185 manufacturing use cases spanning 18 departments — from Maintenance and Quality to Finance, Planning, and Operations Management. Each use case is built around a common framework: what the problem is, why it's hard today, what good looks like, and how to get there.
We're not selling anything. We're not affiliated with any vendor. The goal is simple: give manufacturing professionals a clear, practical resource for understanding how AI and digital transformation actually apply to the work they do every day.
Who This Is For
This platform is built for the people closest to manufacturing operations — engineers, plant managers, supervisors, operations leaders, and the teams supporting them. If you've ever sat in a meeting where someone proposed an "AI initiative" and wondered what that actually means for your line, your department, or your plant, this is for you.
It's also for the consultants, system integrators, and technology providers who work alongside manufacturers and need to speak the language of operational problems rather than software features.
What's Inside
Every use case in the library covers:
- Definition — a clear description of the use case and what it involves
- Why it matters — the business and operational case for addressing it
- Who is involved — the people and data supply to or consuming from the process
- Why it's hard today — the real obstacles organizations face
- Root Causes it's hard — the underlying reasons it's hard from a 6M framework (man, machine, ...)
- How to do it better — practical guidance on approaches and enablers
- Key metrics — what to measure and what good looks like
- Data sources — what data you actually need
- Stakeholders — who needs to be involved
Pro members get access to the full depth of each use case, including financial metrics, root cause analysis, implementation guidance, and example scenarios.
What's Coming
We're just getting started. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be adding new use cases regularly, expanding coverage across departments, and building out resources to help manufacturing teams move from research to action.
This blog will be where we share context around new additions, highlight interesting use cases, and explore the broader questions shaping manufacturing's digital future.
If you have questions, ideas for use cases we should cover, or just want to say hello — reach out at hello@mfgusecases.com. We'd love to hear from you.
Welcome aboard.
