Consumer Products — flow and accountability across two plants
Your Consumer Products division (Dayton + York) has no shared weakness with Industrial Products. Dayton's throughput problem and York's accountability gaps are different signatures, but at the division level they aggregate into a roadmap dominated by flow/scheduling and daily-management discipline use cases.
Quality use cases are conspicuously absent — neither plant has a quality weakness in the data, and the algorithm reflects that. The Solutions Panel below will lead with APS + MES + Connected Worker, weaving production-execution (Dayton's need) with management-system visibility (York's).
Drill into a plant for the focused version. The two reads quite differently despite being aggregated together here.
Things to notice below
- Quality is not on this list. That's the algorithm telling you the gap doesn't exist in your data, not an oversight.
- The seam between APS (planning) and MES (execution) is where the URS draft has the most overlap — useful when evaluating vendors that straddle both.
- Per-plant: Dayton needs flow capability; York needs daily-management discipline. Same division, very different fixes.

Standard Work Design and Documentation
Defining, documenting, and maintaining standardized procedures, work instructions, and process steps for consistent operational execution across shifts, sites, and functions.
Start this week
Walk one high-variability process end to end during a single shift this week — bring a clipboard, a stopwatch, and your current written procedure (or a blank sheet if none exists). Time each major step, note every point where the operator makes a judgment call that isn't captured in the standard, and mark any step that runs in a different sequence than the written version describes. By Friday, you should have a one-page redline of that procedure showing what the work actually looks like versus what the document says. Bring that redline to a 60-minute session with the two or three operators who run that process most often, and let them confirm or correct your observations. That marked-up sheet becomes the baseline draft your team rewrites into a true standard — one process, one shift, before you touch anything else.
Standardized Production and Planning Workflows
Standardized processes for production scheduling, sequencing, order management, inventory control, and demand-supply integration.
Start this week
Map your current production scheduling sequence on paper — from the moment a customer order arrives to the moment a work order hits the floor — by walking it with one planner and one floor supervisor in a single 90-minute session this week. Use a blank sheet of paper or a whiteboard to capture every handoff, decision point, and wait step in the order as it actually happens today, not as the procedure manual describes it. Mark anywhere the two of them disagree on the steps or sequence, because those gaps are where your standardization work starts. By Friday you should have a one-page current-state map you can bring to your next planning meeting as the baseline draft.
Cross-Functional Governance Structures
Formal cross-functional governance bodies -- committees, steering groups, review boards -- that make shared decisions across organizational boundaries where no single function has full ownership.
Start this week
Convene a 90-minute working session this week with one person each from operations, quality, and maintenance — the three functions most likely to be pointing fingers at each other when a recurring problem doesn't get resolved. Before anyone walks in, write a single problem statement on the whiteboard: name one decision that stalled or bounced around in the last 30 days because no one function owned it. Spend the first half of the session confirming everyone recognizes the same gap, then spend the second half drafting a one-page charter — on paper is fine — that names the decision types this group will own, how often it meets (start with biweekly), who has a vote versus a voice, and what happens when the group can't reach agreement. Have a draft ready to review at next Monday's operations standup.
Governance for Production and Operational Performance
Formal governance structures defining ownership of production scheduling, WIP targets, flow control, OEE, and operational performance metrics -- ensuring accountability at each level of the organization.
Start this week
Convene a 90-minute working session this week with your shift supervisors and the one person who currently owns the production schedule — even informally — and draft a single-page ownership map that names who is accountable for each of these decisions: releasing work to the floor, adjusting WIP limits mid-shift, escalating flow problems, and closing out the daily performance review. Use a whiteboard or blank sheet divided into four columns — Decision, Owner, Backup, Escalation Path — and fill it in live with the group. You will almost certainly surface two or three decisions where nobody can agree on who owns them; those gaps are exactly what you are looking for. Bring the completed draft to next Monday's standup as the starting point for a formal one-page governance charter you can finalize within two weeks.
Closed-Loop Corrective Action Processes
End-to-end processes that detect deviations, investigate root causes, implement corrections, and verify effectiveness before closure -- preventing recurrence rather than just containing symptoms.
Start this week
Pull the last ten corrective actions your team closed in the past 90 days and spend 90 minutes with your quality lead tracing each one from the original defect or deviation all the way through to verification. For each record, ask two questions: does the file show an actual root cause investigation (not just a containment step relabeled as a fix), and is there documented evidence that someone went back and confirmed the problem didn't recur? Mark each one as complete or incomplete against those two criteria. By Friday you'll have a clear, factual picture of where your current CAPA process actually stops — containment, correction, or true verification — and that gap map becomes the starting point for rewriting your closure standard.
